RETURN VISITS TO VICTORY LANE THE THEME DURING JOE SIGNS NIGHT AT MISSISSIPPI THUNDER SPEEDWAY

July 12, 2013

By Dan Bailey
FOUNTAIN CITY, WI (July 12, 2013) – Every race night ends up having a theme which seems to permeate the evening, a theme which can quickly sum up the action of the evening; the main theme throughout Joe Signs Night at MISSISSIPPI THUNDER SPEEDWAY was return trips to Victory Lane.

2010 MISSISSIPPI THUNDER SPEEDWAY Track Champion Josh Angst turned in an impressive run behind the wheel of his #99 River City Manufacturing USRA Modified. After a second place finish in the evening's first heat race, Angst lined up in the second row to start the evening's "Joe Signs 25". From the drop of the green flag, Angst gave chase to the front row starters - second heat race winner, and defending Track Champion, Lucas Schott and Feature Race winner from two weeks ago, Brad Waits.

At the start Schott, starting on the pole, and Waits, starting outside front row, immediately swapped positions on the track - Schott stepping to the groove at the top of the MISSISSIPPI THUNDER SPEEDWAY banking, Waits dropping to the bottom. Angst hung out in the battle until lap 15 when he screamed around Waits for the lead and stretched out the advantage through the final 10 laps - pulling in his second feature win of the 2013 season at MISSISSIPPI THUNDER SPEEDWAY by an almost 4 second margin.

Waits and Schott crossed the finish line second and third with Pember making an amazing charge through the field from his 14th place starting spot to a fourth place finish followed by first heat race winner Mike Steensma in fifth.

BRAUER IS BACK IN VICTORY LANE

2010 & 2011 MISSISSIPPI THUNDER SPEEDWAY Track Champion ended a spirited battle for the lead by beating 2012 Track Champion Tommy Richards to the finish line by less than half a second at the end of the Coordinated Business Systems WISSOTA Super Stock feature.

The two former Track Champions, who started deep in the field - in the fourth row, each had to work their way through the pack on the way to the front. Early race leader Jon Duffy enjoyed several laps out front at the beginning of the feature before giving up the lead. After making it to the front, Brauer and Richards touched and tapped several times through the closing laps of the 20-lap main with both trying to get to the preferred groove for the race to the finish.

Brauer bested Richards in the battle to the win, with Kelly Anderson completing the top three across the finish line.

BLEESS IS BEST IN B-MODS

Grass roots dirt track racing is all about action on the track - sure, teams have sponsors and pit crews and family members who need to be thanked. But on-track results are what REALLY speaks for a racer. Young Jacob Bleess is the epitome of this concept. Outside of the car, this hulking relative youngster speaks with a soft quiet bass voice - behind the wheel, his actions match in personality - calm, calculated, and almost so smooth that you'd miss him in a pack.

But time and time again, this Chatfield, MN racer finds himself near the front of the field, and often times in Victory Lane. Such was the case Friday night at the end of the Black Horse Bar & Grill USRA B-Mod feature. Bleess jumped from outside the front row and was smooth as silk through the entire 18-lap feature - while the 22 car pack battled fiercely for every inch and option behind him, Bleess led every lap on his way to the feature win.

Jake Timm finished second with Jon Van Minsel working through the field from his fourth-row starting position to complete the top 3.

WOJCIK WINS AGAIN

Doug Wojcik is continuing his run up to his hoped for second MISSISSIPPI THUNDER SPEEDWAY Track Championship. Wojcik came back from a third place heat race finish to claim the feature win after a battle at the front of the field with the #01 of Shaun Mann. Mann's hopes for a feature win ended with a hard slap against the front straight wall and a bent and battered race car.

Former track champion Danny Hanson followed Wojcik across the line to finish second with Cory Hanson in third.

PROVINZINO PROVES POWERFULL ENOUGH

Joe Provinzino returned to Victory Lane after a hard-fought battle for the win the previous week ended in a second place finish. Before the evening's first green flag, Provinzino said, "Last week's race was fun, but you know what it did for me, it challenged me to come out tonight and win." And that's exactly what he did; after starting the evening's feature in 7th, Provinzino work through the field before making his way past the #99 of Don Werner on lap 8 and racing on to win the redbox+ 600 Modified feature.

Second heat race winner Kyle Jumbeck finished third.

FORT, STEVENS & BRAUER ALSO WIN

Bobby Fort, Jr won the evening's Elmer's Auto Salvage MTS Pure Stock feature. While Alex Stevens and Braden Brauer were Sunshine Sanitation Mini Mod feature winners on The LIGHTNING SPEEDWAY.

MISSISSIPPI THUNDER SPEEDWAY ups the excitement next week with the 5th Annual Baehman Law B-Mod Challenge!
