FOUNTAIN CITY, Wis. (May 12, 2025)—We're just over a couple of weeks away from the largest Modified race of the year! May 28-31 is the Inaugural Modified World Championship from the Mississippi Thunder Speedway in Fountain City, Wisconsin. Boasting a winner's share of $100,025, what really sets this event apart is the payback through the field. A staggering nearly $400,000 purse is up for grabs.
“To even put the plans in place for an event of this magnitude, is why Bob and I get up and work every day,” said track co-owner and promoter Tyrone Lingenfelter. “Bob has always had a plan for MTS and this show is exactly part of the goals we have for this place. I can't wait to see all the racers and fans right around the corner.”
It all gets rolling on Wednesday, May 28, with an open practice. Thursday and Friday are qualifying nights, complete with heats and features. The top five finishers from each feature, each night are transferred to Saturday's main event.
Saturday will be last chance events for the remaining ten spots in the big show. It will be 80 laps in distance with a halfway break for fuel and a one-tire change.
Last year, Louisiana's Cade Dillard rolled out of Mississippi Thunder, a winner of $100,000. No stranger to winning meaningful races, it was a high mark for Dillard's career.
“It’s unreal to be able to put your name in the history books as a winner of that race,” said Dillard. “Never would I have thought I’d have the chance to race a modified for that kind of money. It’s massive for myself, my family, and CDR Racecars.”
He will be back to defend the victory along with 121 other pre-entered drivers currently. The race offers a blending of rules so it takes on a national race feel. Drivers will declare their sanction upon arrival and follow those rules throughout the event for the most part. Every effort is made to align the cars as closely as possible.
A new twist this year, will be the live streaming component. Track partners and weekly provider RacinDirt will spearhead the production and carry the stream along with Flo Racing. Both entities are hard at work currently, promoting and planning, to ensure the largest race in the country translates to viewers at home, as well as those in attendance.
Every great event needs a support division too! Week in and week out the Stock Cars show up and wow the MTS faithful. During the Modified World Championship, they will take center stage as the only other division racing. A stout field of 50 drivers are pre-entered. Those die-hards locked up the coveted entry spots almost immediately, once registration opened.
RacinDirt contributor, broadcaster and supporter Pat Graham will have his Camaro in the pits and ready for action. Sporting one of the most uniquely appearing cars and gunning for the $10,000 top prize, he and his team are hard at work to be ready once the event fires off.
“We're looking forward to racing for $10,000 to win in a few weeks at Mississippi Thunder,” said Graham. Also it's the only stock car race in the country co- streamed on RacinDirt and Flo Racing so tons of eyes will be tuned in! Also, we are looking forward to all the upgrades we have seen at Fountain City from over the off-season.”
May 28-31, there is only one place to be, Mississippi Thunder Speedway in Fountain City, Wisconsin. Advance tickets are on sale now. For those unable to visit in person, RacinDirt or Flo Racing will have you covered. $100,025 to win, be there to witness history!
