2008 marks the end of a longtime tradition in the Southern Wisconsin racing scene and the beginning of a new breed of race track. Owner Jeff Duelman made the decision to sell the track at the close of the 2008 season for various different reasons. The Tri-Oval Speedway was rejuvinated in 2006 by Jeff, after many hours of back breaking work, he brought the speedway back to life after years of silence.
The famed three turn race track breathed life for three full seasons. From the days of the old, many of the drivers returned. Leroy Scharkey, Troy Langowski and Kevin Glander just to name a few. Though many changes had been done to the facility after Jeff took ownership, it was still a favorite Friday night destination for many of local race fans. Nestled in the bluffs of Buffalo County, the picturesque race track will forever live in their hearts.
Out with the old and in with the new!
With the sale of the facility nearly complete, construction began in late fall of 2008. New owner Bob Timm, began the tranformation of a new speedway, four high banked sweeping corners, banked straights and wide enough to thrill drivers and fans alike. Many truck loads of new clay have been brought in to complete the new Mississippi Thunder Speedway. While much work is yet to be done, the 2009 season promises to be a season like never before.
