Another Abbreviated Night At Mississippi Thunder Speedway

May 17, 2009

FOUNTAIN CITY (May 15) – Tina and Tom Lockner of Remax Results and Advisor’s Mortgage were the sponsor of the night and had water bottles, Frisbees, and more for giveaways to the fans on night three at Mississippi Thunder Speedway. The Cochrane-Fountain City Varsity Boys’ Basketball team was on hand to conduct the 50/50 drawing to raise money for their team.

But, for the second week in a row, that not-so-popular lady reared her ugly head and cut the night in half for those strong enough to brave the radar. Promoter Bob Timm had his sights set on beating the rains, but it was not meant to be. As a heavy mist fell on the speedway grounds from the time the gate opened, heat races were herded through in hopes of beating the weather. The heavy mist turned to rain, and as the last USRA Modified race was finished, the show was declared complete. Double features will be on the race card next Friday for the four sanctioned divisions followed by a complete regular show sponsored by Graphic Image of Fountain City. That will open the holiday weekend at Mississippi Thunder Speedway. Racing will begin at 7 p.m.

Monday, Memorial Day, the USMTS will attack MTS to bookend the weekend at the track for a $2000-to-win show. This will be their first of two stops this season at the track. A high car count is expected as this wraps up a seven-race series. Support classes for the USMTS show will include the WISSOTA Street Stocks racing for $300 to win and the WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds racing for $500 to win. National and track points will be awarded for the WISSOTA classes.

Pit entry is $30 for the Memorial Day Special, and the gates will open at 2:30 with racing at 5 p.m. The Mini Mods will start at 4 p.m. Adult grandstand entry is $15 with children 12 years and younger paying just $5.

This is your chance to support the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Awareness drive as well. USMTS driver Mark Noble will be in attendance driving his modified wrapped in pink in memory of Jolene Skroch. Skroch passed away at the age of 32 after battling breast cancer two times after initial diagnosis at age 27.

Support the racers, support the track, and support the drive to find a cure for breast cancer.
