Mississippi Thunder Takes Night Off To Perk Up Surface

June 8, 2009

FOUNTAIN CITY (June 5) – Late Fall track reconstruction, late Spring thaw, and incessant rain so far this season prompted promoter Bob Timm to make an executive decision in cancelling racing action for Friday, June 5. New clay had already been worked into the smaller track inside the main track which hosts the Mini Mods. The next big task at hand was to do the same on the main racing surface.

The track was dug up and some of the old surface was removed. Three feet of banking has been added to the front stretch, and the corners have been reshaped to provide more banking as well. Another 3,000 yards of new clay was also being brought in. When racing resumes at Mississippi Thunder Speedway on Friday, June 12th, the rework should provide some fabulous racing action and may give some drivers that “do over” they have asked for. Sometimes a second season opener is a good thing.

And believe it or not, Mid-Season Points Night will only be two weeks out when the drivers take to the track on the 12th. Mondovi’s Danny Richards currently sits atop the WISSOTA Street Stock point standings. Kyle Jumbeck appears to be setting his sights on back-to-back championships in the WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds. The WISSOTA Super Stocks are very close as 25 points sets apart the top five with Jon Duffy one point ahead of Bob Fort. Brad Waits has a 75-point cushion over Winona’s Kerry Ledebuhr in the USRA Modifieds.

Come on out Friday, June 12th to see some great racing.
