BEN ANDERSON GRABS THE $1000 TO WIN BAEHMAN LAW B-MOD CHALLENGE!! WILLIAMSON CRACKS THE CODE AT MISSISSIPPI THUNDER SPEEDWAY

June 4, 2010

By Tracy Hager
FOUNTAIN CITY, WI (June 4, 2010) – The Second Annual Baehman Law B-Mod Challenge had a mere 20 cars vying for the $1000 paycheck. But not only was a driver going to collect big, the fans had a pretty good chance of something as well. In addition to sponsoring the night, Jack Baehman also would provide a beverage to every person in the stands if one of his four Baehman Law-sponsored cars were to win OR if he himself just finished the race. Both happened and fans were treated to a beverage of their choice.

Joe Provinzino was selected as the previous week’s Winona Radio Driver of the Week. Provinzino runs competitively in the 600 Mini Mod class. In the Jailhouse Saloon WISSOTA Street Stocks, Danny Hanson managed another clean sweep but had to work for the win over Danny Richards. Ben Anderson collected his second clean sweep of the season in The EngineStore.com USRA B-Mods.

Tim Williamson worked hard for his first feature win this season in the Winona Auto Sales WISSOTA Super Stock main event. Josh Angst grabbed another Rivercity Manufacturing USRA Mod feature ahead of the five other remaining cars on the track in a caution-filled feature.

USRA Modified driver Jay Ihrke was elected to drive a couple lucky fans in the Mississippi Thunder Speedway two-seater Modified. Chances to win a ride are sold throughout the night every night at the speedway.

Anderson Grabs the Cash - Provides Free Beverage for all!

The 25-lap, $1000-to-win USRA B-Mod feature showcased 20 drivers ready to race their hearts out. Six cautions and 13 cars down, Ben Anderson capture the big check which also confirmed a free beverage to all fans in the stands. Michael Wytaske and Ben Moudry set the pace for the race, but a first-lap caution took out back-to-back winner Troy Langowski and reset the cars for a complete restart. Wytaske and Moudry tried again and got the race flowing when Anderson moved up on Moudry for second place behind Wytaske. Moudry then took the lead over Wytaske, and Anderson shot low on Moudry for the lead when another caution for debris slowed the field. Moudry headed to the pits for work and returned to the back of the field only to be sent to the infield since he went beyond the work area all the way to his pit stall. Anderson assumed the lead over Matt Jones of Waukon, Iowa and Wytaske. Anderson laid down a comfortable lead over Jones, Wytaske, Erik Kanz, and Brandon Hare. Jake Timm made an attempt at fourth but Kanz held his ground. Jones gained some on Anderson and left a pack of five cars to vie for third place. Caution three flew over the field when Timm slowed on the front stretch amid a puff of white smoke. Anderson and Kanz then raced side by side briefly for the lead, but Anderson maintained his spot. After caution five, Anderson led followed by Kanz, Jones, and Hare. Anderson slid a bit high into the rough when Jones shot under for the lead. Anderson regained his composure to take back the lead. The final caution arrived when Ed Appel’s machine went up in flames down the front stretch. Anderson led the final restart followed by Jones, Kanz, and Brian Schrage who clawed his way up from 11th place. Through it all, Anderson grabbed the win, the paycheck, and the ride to Victory Lane. Jones followed up in second place with Kanz, Hare, and Schrage in third, fourth, and fifth places respectively.

Hanson Handles The Field

Cory Hanson and Michael Knudtson shot to a fast-paced WISSOTA Street Stock feature as the two tore side by side for the lead followed by Kevin Hager and Fred Prudoehl. A spin on the backstretch resulted in a restart and two DNFs early on. Dicing for spots on the restart shot Danny Richards under Knudtson for second place ahead of Hager as Danny Hanson galloped into fifth place. Cory Hanson continued the lead while Knudtson ripped by Hager for third; Hager dug in and held the spot and left Knudtson to fend off Danny Hanson. Richards maneuvered his way around Cory Hanson into the lead as Danny Hanson got by Hager for third. Hager rebounded, but again, Danny Hanson got third back. Danny Hanson jumped in on Cory Hanson’s second place spot enroute to Richards out front. Richards, Danny Hanson, Cory Hanson, Hager, and Donny Ganz led the WISSOTA Street Stock field. As Hager was about to take over Cory Hanson’s third place spot, a caution slowed the pack. Richards led off the restart followed by Danny Hanson, Cory Hanson, Hager, and Ganz. Danny Hanson made his move to the outside of Richards for the lead with two laps to go. Richards darted back to Hanson’s side as they raced side by side for the lead. Hanson was able to take the win followed by Richards and Hager. Rick Lisowski was able to sneak into fourth place ahead of Cory Hanson.

Williamson Cracks The code

Tim Williamson started outside Josh Rodewald in the 10-car WISSOTA Super Stock caution-free feature. Dennis Earney zoomed into second followed by Bob Fort, Rodewald, and Kevin Hager as the track got rough again after it was farmed at intermission. Earney gained the lead over Williamson while Fort followed in third place. Hager bounced around in fourth place while Gary Wiersgalla rallied into the top five. Hager and Wiersgalla raced side by side for fourth before Wiersgalla gained the spot which left Hager to settle for fifth. Earney set himself apart from the rest out front while Williamson continued to hold second ahead of Fort. Wiersgalla closed in on Fort, and Jeff Brauer got a chance at fifth place when Hager slipped a bit sideways in turn one. Williamson was able to steal the lead from Earney to take over first while Wiersgalla grabbed second. Williamson finally found the right combination after two weeks of misery to win his first feature this season. Wiersgalla had another strong finish in second followed by Earney, Fort, and Brauer.

Angst, Again

Ryan York of Racine, Minnesota sat atop the field in the USRA Modified main event. Bob Timm was to be outside pole but was a no-show which allowed Lucas Schott outside pole. Josh Angst and John Doelle followed in the second row, and Angst quickly overtook York for the lead. Schott showed signs of trouble and pulled his car to the infield while Jay Ihrke flew into third place behind Angst and York. Doelle settled into fourth as the top four pulled away from the rest of the field. A caution for Paul Hamernik’s machine teetering on the inside berm in turn four reset the cars with Angst, Ihrke, York, Leroy Scharkey, and Chris Gilbertson in the top five. Within seven laps, the car count dwindled from 16 to nine. Angst continued his high-flying ways while Ihrke kept close. York, Gilbertson, and Scharkey held their ground in spots three through five when suddenly Ihrke slowed and dropped from competition. As cars peeled off the track with various issues, Angst was able to take another win from the competition. York finished second followed by Gilbertson, Scharkey, and “Crazy” Phil Wernert.
