BRAUER GOES BACK TO BACK AT MTS; WASMUND NOTCHES FIRST WIN AT MISSISSIPPI THUNDER SPEEDWAY

July 16, 2010

By Tracy Hager
FOUNTAIN CITY, WI (JuLY 16, 2010) – WISSOTA Late Models returned to the speedway on the night sponsored by Lou Fegers Racing. Mike Fegers was in house and brought plenty of prizes for the fans as well as bonuses for some drivers. Josh Angst was chosen as the Winona Radio Driver of the Week for his supreme efforts in the USRA Modified division. Angst currently leads the USRA National Modified Point Standings.

Keith Foss clipped the rest of the field for the win in the WISSOTA Late Models while Jeff Brauer remembered where victory lane was in the WISSOTA Super Stocks. Troy Langowski, Danny Hanson, and Nate Wasmund all cleaned up as they swept their divisions.

WASMUND WINS!

Rivercity Manufacturing USRA Modifieds started with 19 cars, but they had seven cautions and seven DNFs to go through before the checkers flew. Chris Gilbertson and Bob Timm pulled to a distance right away as they left Lance Hofer, Ron Konkel, and Adam Stockhausen to fight for third place. Timm grabbed the lead over Gilbertson while Hofer wrestled third place away from Konkel and Stockhausen. Nate Wasmund torpedoed into fourth place, but the first yellow flew which sent him back to his spot. Timm, Hofer, Gilbertson, Konkel, and Stockhausen sat atop the field on the restart. While Timm ran high out of turn four and Gilbertson ran low, Hofer split the two to take over the lead, but it was brief as Timm regained the spot. Konkel then moved under Hofer, but Wasmund too had the same idea. Timm then slipped back to fourth behind Hofer, Konkel, and Wasmund. Josh Angst and Timm then ran side by side for fourth place. Konkel managed to finally get the lead from Hofer. After multiple cautions, Konkel continued his lead over Wasmund, Angst, Stockhausen, and Andy Bohnstengel. At lap 15, Wasmund made a serious bid for the lead and put Konkel back to second. Angst then jumped to second as Konkel drifted back to fourth behind Stockhausen. Wasmund made the happy trip to the infield for his first win at the speedway in only his second visit. Angst, Stockhausen, Konkel, and Hofer rounded out the top five.

FOSS FASTEST!

Twelve WISSOTA Late Models were on hand as the class returned for their light schedule at the speedway this season. Don Schaefer and Dennis Hillson led the field, but a complete restart was in order when Kyle Jumbeck went into a spin in turn two. Hillson jumped to the lead, but Kelly Anderson charged low to run side by side with Hillson for the lead. Brad Waits moved into third as Keith Foss, Joe Ludemann, and Schaefer went three wide for fourth place. Hillson pulled ahead into the lead, but Waits shot low to run at Hillson’s door for the lead. Foss slipped under Anderson for third while Schaefer held Lance Matthees and Chris Oertel back to sixth and seventh places. Waits took the lead from Hillson, and then Foss took over second place. Foss gradually gained spots until he gained the lead from Waits. With six laps to go, Foss led Waits, Anderson, and Jumbeck who had scrambled back into the top five. Oertel served up a challenge to Jumbeck for fourth place and took the spot as Jumbeck drifted back. Foss secured the win followed by Waits, Anderson, Oertel, and Ludeman.

BRAUER GRABS SECOND STRAIGHT!

Kevin Glander paced the Winona Auto Sales WISSOTA Super Stocks for their 18-lap feature race. Kevin Hager was on the gas fast and quickly slipped under Glander for second behind Dennis Earney. Hager made a low charge on Earney as the two ran head to head for the lead. Jon Duffy moved into third place followed by Tim Williamson and Jeff Brauer. Hager managed to take the lead from Earney and put a cushion between him when a spin in turn two left Gary Wiersgalla with a flat tire, Colin Polacek with damage to his left rear, and Tim Williamson with a time-out slip to the back of the pack. Hager assumed the point followed by Earney, Duffy, Brauer, and Bob Fort who moved into the top five. Hager continued the lead, but Duffy was on his tail. Brauer then slipped to the inside of Duffy into second and quickly under Hager for the lead. Fort scooted into third behind Hager briefly before taking over second. Brauer moved out to a big lead over Fort and Hager as Earney, Duffy, and Tommy Richards fought for fourth place. The second and final caution for a spun car set the cars up for their final run to the finish with seven laps to go. Brauer, Fort, Hager, and Earney topped the field at this point, and Fort made a valiant effort to take first, but it was not enough to do the job. Earney shot to the inside of Hager for third as the two again found themselves in a close and clean side by side battle through the last laps. With three laps to go, Brauer and Fort were dead even at the line. Brauer pulled out of the corner to put the distance he needed to make it back to victory lane for the second week in a row. Fort would settle for second followed by Hager, Earney, and Richards.

LANGOWSKI OUT FRONT!

Chad Kosidowski looked fierce and strong in the EngineStore.com USRA B-Mod feature. Erik Kanz slowed during the first lap with a flat tire and the first of several cautions was pulled out. Kosidowski again took the point but was reeled back by a second caution. When a few laps finally latched together, Kosidowski led over Brandon Hare in second. Troy Langowski charmed his way through the field from his eighth place starting spot into third before running side by side with Hare for second. Shaun Walski and Brian Schrage ran hard for fourth and fifth. Langowski took to the inside of Kosidowski with four laps down to take the lead from his brother-in-law. Langowski proved to be a dominant figure as he never relinquished the lead and headed to victory lane again. Walski certainly made several attempts to dethrone Langowski, but runner up was what he would have to settle for. Kanz worked his way back to a third place finish followed by Hare and Parker Hale.

HANSON WINS BY INCHES!

Jailhouse Saloon WISSOTA Street Stock feature action started as Kevin Hager and Shaun Mann waged a great side by side battle for the lead as one moved ahead then the other. Donny Ganz, Danny Richards, Cory Hanson, and Rick Lisowski all raced for third place. Mann shot high around Hager into the lead as Richards followed into second. Hager held strong in third place, but then Cory Hanson charged up to the side of Hager to challenge the spot. Lisowski then pushed into fourth place when a caution for a spin realigned the field. Mann led the restart followed by Richards, Cory Hanson, Hager, and Lisowski. Richards looked to the inside of Mann for the lead and then took it away. Mann followed in second while Cory Hanson slipped into third. Lisowski managed to muscle fourth from Hager, and then Danny Hanson climbed into fifth place. Mann engaged in a great fight for the lead with Richards, but Richards held on. Danny Hanson continued to climb up the ladder and then moved into side by side racing with Richards for the lead. Dan Bork moved in on Richards to make a serious challenge on Danny Hanson for first. With two laps to go, it was Danny Hanson and Bork even at the line as the two wheeled their way through the last laps. By only inches if that, Danny Hanson recorded another one for the “W” column. Bork had no choice but to settle for second. Cory Hanson, Richards, and Mann finished up the top five.

Coming up on Friday, July 23 will be the Rivercity Rumble Modified Special. USRA Mods and B-Mods will run in addition to WISSOTA Street Stocks, 600 Mini Mods, and A and B Mini Mods. There will be no WISSOTA Super Stocks.
