DONLINGER CASHES IN DURING RIVERCITY RUMBLE AT MISSISSIPPI THUNDER SPEEDWAY

July 23, 2010

By Tracy Hager
FOUNTAIN CITY, WI (JuLY 23, 2010) – The Second Annual Rivercity Rumble at MISSISSIPPI THUNDER SPEEDWAY was brought to you by Rivercity Manufacturing and Machine Company and R & R Machining Company. A huge $3000-to-win show for the USRA Modifieds and a $750-to-win for the USRA B-Mods highlighted the evening. With 32 USRA Modifieds on hand, Rochester’s Tim Donlinger went flag to flag at the head of the pack.

For the second week in a row, WISSOTA Amsoil Dirt Track Series racing action in the WISSOTA Street Stock feature came down to less than a car length to determine the winner. After making a comeback from the rear of the field, Danny Richards finally made it to victory lane for the first time this season at MTS.

The first visit proved to be a charm for Cadott’s Jesse Glenz as he capitalized on a last corner slip by Troy Langowski to win the EngineStore.com USRA B-Mod feature. Winona Radio’s Driver of the Week was USRA Modified driver Ron Konkel.

DONLINGER DOMINANT!

The final event of the night was the 30-lap USRA Modified feature. Tim Donlinger immediately shot to a big lead over Jeff Schluetter and left Kelly Shryock and Mike Sorensen to run side by side for fourth place behind Al Hejna. Todd Scharkey and Les Duellman also ran in close competition for sixth place. Shryock was able to gain third place over Schluetter while Donlinger and Hejna led the field out front. A caution reeled the leaders back in, and with five laps down, Donlinger assumed the point followed by Hejna, Shryock, Schluetter, and Sorensen. With multiple lines of three-wide racing, Donlinger still managed to scoot to a big lead. Shryock slipped into second place, but Hejna fought back on the low side. Sorensen and Scharkey raced for fifth behind Schluetter when Dereck Ramirez joined the fifth-place battle. With nine laps down, caution two once again reeled Donlinger back to the field. On the green, Donlinger led through the corners and left Hejna and Shryock to run back and forth for second. Sorensen and Scharkey continued their side-by-side entertainment for fourth while Ramirez patiently waited it out in sixth place. Donlinger continued to pull away from Shryock and Hejna. Sorensen, Scharkey, and Ramirez amused the crowd as they battled for fourth place. Sorensen managed to hold fourth place as Ramirez attempted to crack the spot. Donlinger essentially went uncontested and on to victory ahead of Shryock. Ramirez cleared Hejna for third while Sorensen finished fifth.

GLENZ WINS WITH LAST-LAP, LAST-TURN PASS!

Troy Langowski got a great start on Shaun Walski in the USRA B-Mod 20-lap main event. Erik Kanz moved low on Protivin, Iowa’s Ben Moudry, but Moudry settled into third. Ben Anderson clung tight to Kanz as Anderson nearly took fourth place when the one and only caution reset the pack. With three laps down, Langowski again took off with Walski on a mission. Moudry ran third when Jesse Glenz tore into fourth place ahead of Kanz and Anderson. Langowski, Walski, and Glenz put some distance on the rest of the pack as they appeared to set up on cruise control. Anderson made a big gain as he took over fourth from Moudry. Dalton Yohnk then hunted down Anderson as he cracked the top five ahead of Moudry. Langowski continued his lead over Walski and Glenz. At lap 15, Walski slipped up high which allowed Glenz to shoot into second place behind Langowski. Glenz was able to position himself right behind Langowski with time running out and no more cautions in their future. In a heart-breaker, Langowski’s smooth ride hit a rut in turn four on the final lap. Glenz was in the right spot at the right time and was able to pull out of turn four and clip Langowski for the win. Walski, Anderson, and Moudry rounded out the top five.

RICHARDS WINS WITH LAST-LAP, LAST-TURN PASS ALSO!

Fred Prudoehl and Kevin Hager tore side by side down the front stretch at the drop of the green flag in the Jailhouse Saloon WISSOTA Street Stock feature. Chanda Fjorden Nord quickly pressed Hager for second place while Hager fought off Donny Ganz. Nord pulled the lead from Prudoehl as Ganz and Hager pursued the two. Ganz, Danny Richards, and Hager compressed three wide in turn four, but not enough room sent Hager toward the wall. A caution was waved with Richards on his way to the tail of the field. With three laps down, Nord maintained her lead over Prudoehl, Ganz, and Hager. Prudoehl continued to use the whole track as he held second place behind Nord. Danny Hanson climbed into fifth place and then soon took to a three-wide charge with Ganz and Hager for third. Hager pulled into third ahead of Hanson when Ganz, Dan Bork, and Cory Hanson bunched up in turn two and resulted in multiple spins. Ganz was sent to the rear on the caution as the race went back to green. Nord and Prudoehl continued their runs up front while Danny Hanson shot under Hager for third. Shaun Mann got his ponies running and soared into fifth while being chased by Mike Conrad. Hanson finally got around Prudoehl for second as Hager shot close to Prudoehl to try to take away third place. Caution three for a car in the wall in turn four reset the field, but the surprise was when Danny Hanson succumbed to front right suspension damage from a different situation just prior to the caution. Nord assumed the lead still followed by Prudoehl and then Mann, Hager, and Cory Hanson. Richards galloped back into the top five after restarting at the tail of the field for his earlier caution. When Mann finally got the run on Prudoehl for second place, it did not last long as Richards shot to second place on his way to Nord. Nord gave herself a small cushion between her and Richards, but with two laps to go, Richards shot up to Nord’s door. Nord and Richards tore side by side down the back stretch on their final approach. Richards got the boost out of turn four to steal the win from Nord by about three feet. Mann tallied a very strong third place finish followed by Prudoehl and Hager.
