FOUNTAIN CITY, WI (OCTOBER 16, 2010) – Mississippi Thunder's own Danny Hanson tucked in his season with a second win in the WISSOTA Street Stocks and his first WISSOTA Street Stock National Championship.
The WISSOTA Super Stocks went flag to flag in their feature event to close up the season while lap traffic in the USRA Modifieds made the lead changes very interesting for their feature.
David Swearingen lead the WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds from the drop of the green with Tony Konold and Brad Hudson following. Dustin Scott shot to fourth and left Chad Boettcher and Billy Steinberg to race side by side for fifth. A caution with three laps down set Swearingen out front. Hudson zipped around Konold for second as Scott too got under Konold into third. Hudson and Scott embroiled in a side by side battle for second while Konold, John Broking, and Steinberg ran three-wide for fourth place. Konold finally took fourth behind Scott. Shane Halopka found his way into sixth place after starting five rows deep in the field. Swearingen continued his lead, but Scott was on the move and soon the two were side by side for the lead. Swearingen remained out front, but Scott continued to make a bid for the spot. Mike Anderson wiggled his way into fifth over Konold by lap 12. Swearingen and Scott again raced side by side for the lead, back and forth until Scott finally made the pass by lap 15. Scott pulled the win ahead of Swearingen. Halopka, Hudson, and Anderson capped the top five.
Chanda Fjorden Nord set the pace in the WISSOTA Street Stock main event. Her car pushed severely in turn two of the first lap, however, which dropped her way back and allowed Danny Hanson to take the lead. Donny Ganz and Dan Bork pursued in second and third while Jay Kesan dropped into fourth place ahead of Jordan Kurtti. Hanson extended his lead early on, but a caution at lap 9 for a tumble by Mike Blowers in turn four reset the field. Blowers went into a spin when his tires dug in and sent him into a quick flip on his side; Blowers was uninjured and the race resumed with Hanson on the point. Kesan gained some ground and took over second from Ganz after the two raced side by side. Ganz remained on Kesan's tail as Bork and Michael Knudtson raced for fourth. Hanson essentially ran uncontested to make a double play on the weekend for wins. Kesan had another strong finish in second followed by Ganz, Bork, and Knudtson.
USRA B-Mod feature action had Decorah's Troy Hovey on the pole with Jacob Bleess outside. Jake Timm ran third while Ben Anderson sliced through multiple cars into fourth place early. Anderson then took on Timm for third. Hovey gave himself a good lead over Anderson when a caution for cars in the turn one wall slowed the pack. Hovey again set himself apart from the rest. Anderson stayed ahead of Jeremy Smith and Greg Mitchell as the two battled close for third place. With 15 laps down, a second caution reeled Hovey back in to the pack, but it did not matter. Hovey secured the win a good distance ahead of the rest of the field. Anderson grabbed second place followed by Mitchell, Smith, and Troy Langowski.
With the caution lights out, the green flag waving, the WISSOTA Super Stocks were released into their non-stop main event. Terry Kroening and Shane Kisling raced side by side for the lead with Tommy Richards close in third. Dennis Earney and Frank Fabio picked out third and fourth places while Paul Erickson tried to set up shop in fifth place. Don Eischens had other plans as he put Erickson back a spot, and then Eischens went on to race side by side with Kroening for fourth place. Kisling moved out to a stellar lead ahead of Richards as the cars fanned out up front. Kisling remained in control as lap traffic perked up the race. Kisling smoothly threaded his way through the cars and went on to take his second win on the weekend. Richards finished a strong second place ahead of Eischens, Earney, and Erickson.
A one-caution main event for the USRA Modifieds capped the night and season as Steve Wetzstein hopped to the lead over Jason Cummins. Mark Noble and Bob Timm raced side by side for third when the only caution realigned the field. Wetzstein took the point as Noble chose the bottom groove opposite Cummins. Darrin Walch drifted from fifth place back to seventh which allowed Ben Mattick and Kevin Viebrock into the top five. Mattick, Viebrock, Walch, and Les Duellman raced close for fifth while Wetzsten continued the lead up front. Cummins picked up his game and shot into a great battle for the lead with Wetzsten. Although Wetzstein held his ground, Cummins continued to be a threat. By lap 14, Cummins got the lead away from Wetzstein. Cummins became entwined in lap traffic but continued to slice his way through the field. Wetzstein regained the lead on lap 27 as the two gave the crowd a late-race surge of excitement. On lap 29, Cummins took the lead back and headed on to win the finale. Wetzstein finished second ahead of Noble, Timm, and Mattick.
