ANDERSON GRABS SECOND CONSECUTIVE BAEHMAN LAW B-MOD CHALLENGE WIN AT MISSISSIPPI THUNDER SPEEDWAY!

June 25, 2011

By Tracy Hager
FOUNTAIN CITY, WI (June 25, 2011) – Jack Baehman of Baehman Law was the host sponsor for the 3rd Annual Baehman Law B-Mod Challenge at MISSISSIPPI THUNDER SPEEDWAY. In a $500-to-win show for the TheEngineStore.com USRA B-Mods, 21 cars would vie for the big check, but before the green, they would see a lot of yellow.

The Jailhouse Saloon WISSOTA Street Stock driver Shaun Mann finally found what has eluded him up until this point; victory lane. Jeff Brauer not only pocketed his third win in the Winona Auto Sales WISSOTA Super Stocks at Mississippi Thunder Speedway, he captured the victory in his back-up car after taking a tumble in his heat race at Deer Creek Speedway the previous Saturday. Ben Anderson took home the big paycheck for the 3rd Annual Baehman Law B-Mod Challenge for TheEngineStore.com USRA B-Mods while Josh Mattick topped the 16-car field of RiverCity Manufacturing USRA Modifieds.

The Jailhouse Saloon WISSOTA Street Stocks started off with a caution when cars bunched up in turn one. Officials then decided the track was a bit slick yet, so several packing and hot laps occurred before releasing them again. As the race began again, Matt Wolfe and Donny Ganz led the pack ahead of Ryan Henderson, Danny Richards, Fred Prudoehl, and the rest as they all stayed in formation through the first lap. At the end of lap one, Ganz pulled to the lead followed by Wolfe, Henderson, and Richards. Richards shot out into the marbles which allowed Henderson to take third place, and then Shaun Mann slipped into fourth. Wolfe continued on the bumper of Ganz while Mann caught up to Henderson in third place. Richards continued to lose momentum while Danny Hanson gained it as he nipped the top five at the half-way point of the race. Ganz, Wolfe, and Mann ran out front as Hanson then zipped by Henderson for fourth place. Wolfe lost some ground which allowed Mann the opportunity to shoot low and take over second place. Hanson then did the same into third and sent Wolfe back to fourth. With 13 laps down, Mann got his golden opportunity to slip under Ganz for the lead as they passed lap traffic, but Hanson was on them like a hound dog. With two laps to go, Mann continued to stay up front while being run down by Hanson, Ganz, Wolfe, and Henderson. Mann nearly made a fatal error as he shot out of turn four on the final lap which afforded Hanson a great run to the finish. But it was Mann to stick his nose where it belonged, or his fender, as he nipped Hanson by that much for his first feature win. Ganz, Wolfe, and Henderson capped the top five.

Brandon Hare and Bob Timm sat atop the field in the EngineStore.com USRA B-Mod main event. Hare took the lead followed by multiple lines of three-wide racing behind him. As the first lap was completed, the first of many cautions waved over the field. Hare, Timm, Shaun Walski, Ben Anderson, and Troy Langowski set up the top five in the restart. Hare and Timm pulled away from the field while Anderson moved into third ahead of Langowski and Walski as the two ran side by side for fourth place. As Timm moved into Hare's territory, the second caution arrived. Hare again restarted on the point followed by Timm, Anderson, Langowski, and Walski. Walski slipped high and drifted back and was tagged half a lap later which resulted in caution five. Multiple laps were difficult to string together and single file restarts ensued. Hare managed to hang onto the lead each time, but 18 laps and nine cautions later, Anderson took the win from Hare by inches. Langowski pulled a strong third-place finish followed by Timm, and Jeremy Smith.

Twenty laps were in store for the Winona Auto Sales WISSOTA Super Stock feature as Rick Lisowski and Josh Rodewald led the boys to the green flag. Rodewald slipped sideways in turn two but recovered, but not before a stack up occurred behind him. Dennis Earney suffered a tire down in the melee, Gary Wiersgalla had front end damage which retired him for the night, Chuck Nerland received some damage, and Kelly Anderson suffered fatal damage as he was pushed to the pits. The new restart pushed Kevin Hager to the outside pole with Lisowski followed by Michael Hofer and Jeff Brauer. When the race went back to green, Lisowski and Hofer ran for the lead as Hager wound up his machine on the high side for third. Brauer wheeled his backup car into contention while Nerland dropped back and finally to the infield when his munched nosecone flipped up into his view. Up ahead, Hofer shot under Lisowski for the lead but could not make the pass. Hager and Brauer ran for third as the top four pulled away from the pack. Brauer moved up to run side by side with Hager, but Hager managed to hold the spot. Lisowski continued to hold onto the lead over Hofer when Brauer was able to make the move to third ahead of Hager. Tommy Richards found his way through the pack from last place into the top five. Brauer motored ahead and knocked on Hofer's door for second place, swiped the spot, and then did the same on Lisowski for the lead. At the half-way mark of the race, Richards dipped under Hofer for second place, however, Hofer continued to battle back. Lisowski and Hager held their spots in fourth and fifth respectively. Brauer was able to do a complete turnaround from last week at Deer Creek and go from rollover victim and ER visit to back-up car and into victory lane. Richards pulled a strong second followed by Hofer, Lisowski, and Hager who was also in his back-up car after taking a tumble in the same heat as Brauer at Deer Creek.

Jay Ihrke quickly shot to the lead from the second row in the River City Manufacturing USRA Modified feature. Pole sitter Josh Mattick ran second to Ihrke followed by Hank Rollinger Jr. as the cars then raced three-wide for the lead. A caution reeled them back in for a complete restart however. Mattick took the lead on the restart while Rollinger wound it up on the high side, but Ihrke was able to shoot under Rollinger for second. John Doelle tried to work over Ben Mattick in the high groove for fourth, when Ihrke made the pass over Josh Mattick for the lead. Rollinger slipped high in turn four which allowed Doelle to take third. The second and final caution reset the field with Ihrke on the point followed by Josh Mattick, Ben Mattick, Doelle, and Rollinger. Brothers Ben and Josh Mattick ran side by side for second while Doelle followed in fourth. Rollinger worked hard to keep fifth place when Lucas Schott flew under Rollinger into the spot. Up front Josh Mattick made several attempts to take the lead from Ihrke, but Ihrke remained strong. By lap 11, Josh Mattick was able to finally make the move to put him out front, but Ihrke remained a force in second. Schott threaded his way through the cars into third followed by Ben Mattick and Doelle. Josh Mattick was finally able to pull away and left Ihrke to contend with the hard-charging Schott. Josh Mattick was able to keep the run going all the way to the checkered flag. Schott had to settle for second followed by Ihrke, Doelle, and Adam Hensel.

Thursday, June 30 will showcase the WISSOTA Street Stocks in the 2nd Annual Summer Nationals. The Oakridge Fabrication 600 Mini Mods and WISSOTA Late Models will also be on the card. At this point, $1,500 to win is what the WISSOTA Street Stocks will be vying for. Last year multiple individuals and businesses kicked in extra money throughout the night, so until the paychecks were distributed, no one really knew what theirs would be. Could that be the case again this year? Stop in to MTS to find out.

Following the Street Stock Summer Nationals on Friday, July 1 will be the first stop for the DART WISSOTA Late Model Challenge Series at the speedway in 2011. Also competing will be the WISSOTA Street Stocks, USRA B-Mods, and USRA Modifieds as well as the 600 Mini Mods, Senior Mini Mods, and Junior Mini Mods.
