USRA North Star Nationals Championship Night
RESSIE VISITS VICTORY LANE FOR SECOND TIME TO SECURE $1000 USRA LATE MODEL SPECIAL WIN!

June 10, 2022

By Dan Bailey
FOUNTAIN CITY, WI (Friday June 10th, 2022) – Kory Ressie had only visited the MISSISSIPPI THUNDER SPEEDWAY Victory Lane one other time in his short career - that was in 2021; Friday night Ressie made his second visit and grabbed a Wallet-Stuffing $1000 to boot, via a last-lap last-turn pass of prior USRA Late Model feature winner Brad Waits to win the USRA Late Model Special presented by RJs Fast Tracks and Two Brothers Auto!

Former Track Champion Keith Foss snagged his first RiverCity Manufacturing USRA Modified feature of 2022, with former USRA National Champion Brandon Hare making his first return trip to Victory Lane since 2017 by winning the Black Horse Bar & Grill USRA B-Mod feature! Chris Hovden won the Horman's HVAC USRA Hobby Stock feature with Ben Kraus battling for the win of the first ever outlaw mini-mod feature held on the high-banks of "The Big 1/3-Mile".

RESSIE - $1000 USRA LATE MODEL WINNER!

In 2021 Alma's Kory Ressie broke into Victory Lane for the first time - Friday night Ressie topped that initial win experience in dramatic fashion via a last-lap last-turn pass (on the outside) of one of the most winning-est racers at MTS - Brad Waits - to secure a $1000 payday as winner of "The USRA Late Model Special - presented by RJs Fast Tracks and Two Brothers Auto"!

Waits, who'd taken the lead with five laps remaining in the 25-lap feature, was hoping to make it two in a row after winning the Buffalo Saloon USRA Late Model feature on May 27th. Rochester's Waits took the lead from Brett Shafer's #22 on a restart with 5-to-go, and looked ready to turn in the repeat win when Shafer, who'd led the feature for the first 20 laps, spun and was sent to the rear of the field.

But, the second restart allowed Ressie to mount a charge via the outside of the middle groove; building momentum to propel his own #208 Late Model past Waits' #24 for the exciting drag-race to the waiving checkered flag which culminated in a separation of just a tenth of a second between the two cars crossing the finish line!

"The top of the track cleaned off at the right time," Ressie said after the win. "I was just hoping (Waits) didn't take my line away and he never saw me coming. I just kind of snuck by him at the end…It’s pretty big. I knew I had a run coming out of turn two on the white flag - I figured, drive it into three as deep as I can without wrecking myself, and the car just stuck. I mean it handled (turns) three and four perfectly - as we raced to the checkered flag, I wasn't even watching where I was going (like I should have been), but I was looking to my left - focused 100% on Brad!"

Waits settled for second followed by Matt LaDuke in third, Ryan Olson in fourth & Eric Thill rounding out the top-5.

FOSS FASTEST - WINS MODIFIED FEATURE

Keith Foss returned to his winning ways by leading the entire 25-lap RiverCity Manufacturing USRA Modified feature presented by KevkoRacing.com with his #95.

The 2018 MTS Track Champion jumped from his starting spot on the outside of the front row and never looked back, adding the feature win to his heat race win earlier in the evening to cement a 'clean sweep' of the evening.

Former 2-time Track Champion Lucas Schott finished second with 6-time Track Champion Josh Angst third, just ahead of second heat-race winner Parker Hale in fourth and two-time heat race winner in 2022 Chris Oertel completing the top-5.

HARE CELEBRATES LONG AWAITED B-MOD WIN

Elma, IA's Brandon Hare has enjoyed a lot of success in his career behind the wheel of his "Hare Nation" #56 Modifieds; he enjoys the spotlight as a former two-time USRA National Champion!

But, this former National Champion has been on a bit of a dry-streak at Mississippi Thunder. That dry-streak came to an end Friday as Hare won the Black Horse Bar & Grill USRA B-Mod Feature presented by Richard's Sanitation.

"Boy it's been a long time coming to get back here to Victory Lane," commented Hare after the feature win, "You know, that last time I was here, as a feature winner at MTS, was 2017! This feels so great to be back!"

Joe Chisholm tried mightily to close the gap on Hare, but could never quite reel in the leader - settling for a second place feature finish.

Former Track Champion Ryan Olson finished a close third, ahead of Dylan Goettl & Harley Dais (who collected his best ever feature finish in fifth).

HOVDEN RETURNS 07 HOBBY STOCK TO VICTORY LANE

Chris Hovden knows how to win at MTS, as the 2020 Hobby Stock Track Champion he proved his abilities. In 2022 he's reproving his dominance already; as he claimed his second win, in three starts, of Friday's Horman's HVAC USRA Hobby Stock feature presented by H&M Plumbing and Heating!

Hovden passed early race battlers for the lead, Scott Spilde and Steve Dwyer en route to the feature win. As the checkered flag waived, that's how the top three crossed the finish line (Hovden, Spilde, Dwyer) with Logan Scott fourth (in his best ever feature finish) and the prior Friday night feature winner Nick Schwebach in fifth.

KRAUS WINS FIRST EVER OUTLAW MINI-MOD FEATURE ON 1/3-MILE

In only his first time to MTS, Ben Kraus raced his No. 9 Outlaw Mini-Mod to his seventh-win of his season.

Kraus persevered through an intense three-car battle for the lead with Nathan Kilwine and Matthew Grobe for the victory throughout the 12-lap feature. Normally competing on the 1/5-Mile "Lightning Speedway", this was the first time, ever, for the Outlaw Mini-Mods on the high-banks of "The Big 1/3-Mile".

MISSISSIPPI THUNDER SPEEDWAY returns to green-flag action Friday June 24th with the "King Of The Grass Special" Presented by Oakridge Fabrication!

The evening's action begins at 7:15 with Opening Ceremonies followed by green-flag action from the Rivercity Manufacturing USRA Modifieds, Buffalo Saloon USRA Late Models (presented by Centerville Welding & Repair), Black Horse Bar & Grill USRA B-Mods, Horman's HVAC USRA Hobby Stocks, Micro Sprints, & High-Comp Racing Lawn Mowers!
